The Experiment

My family of 5 left our 3,000 square-foot Dallas house for a 1,200 square-foot DC apartment. To support the Husband’s life-long dream to live and work in our nation’s capital, we loaded a U-Haul and drove cross-country.  His year-long assignment on Pennsylvania Avenue became a permanent move to DC.  That meant an emotional departure and downsize that I talk about here.

With its central location and breathtaking views of the U.S. Capitol and Washington Monument, I’m finding new joy in giving this 2 br/2ba apartment function & style for my family of 5. That means the 3 kids share a room that was featured here on Apartment Therapy. It also means I experiment with every square inch to make the apartment serve our needs.

Goodbye SUV – Hello Cargo Bike…

While trading in our suburban ideals, we sold our family car and added a cargo bike named Libby (short for “Liberty”). Libby carries kids and groceries, and makes exploring DC a thrill.

For me, experimenting in my home is about asking questions and being bold—not being afraid of trying, testing, and tweaking. For my blog, each post begins with a question I’m asking at the moment.

Come along for the ride!

I hope you are experimenting with something new in your life.  Whether it’s your career, your Home or your travels – GO FOR IT!
